It’s said, “Politics and religion don’t mix,” but I’m talking about it anyway.

The question I’m wanting to further consider is:

Was Jesus a liberal or a conservative?

So what do you think?

And last time I suggested our Lord was conservative.

And I pointed out His conservative tendencies.

I now want to turn it around 180 degrees and say, “Wait a minute. Jesus wasn’t a conservative. Quite to the contrary.”

And there are a number of Bible examples that prove it.

Like the times when Jesus allowed work on the Sabbath.

The 4th commandment of the 10 Commandments states:

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

But in one instances Christ said it was okay for His disciples to pluck grain which it was unlawful to do.

And in another instance Christ healed a person and right in the middle of church!

If that isn’t liberal – breaking the law of the Sabbath – I don’t know what is.

And our Lord’s liberalism goes even further than this.

Like the time when Jesus told a rich guy to give all his money away to the poor.

Sounds a little like raising taxes to purchase universal health care or to cover the cost of illegal immigrant attending American schools.

And then there was the incident where Jesus visited Samaria – cultural no no #1 – and then He had a conversation with a female no less – cultural no no #2 in Christ’s day – you just don’t do that sort of thing if you’re a conservative.

Lastly, but not least, Jesus reached out and touched with His own hand someone who was less than normal – a leper – to heal him – cultural no no #3.

In our day a leper is the equivalent of a crack addict with AIDS.

Again, if that isn’t liberal, then you tell me what is.

And so Jesus couldn’t possibly be a conservative.

Right?

Don’t you agree?

Jesus couldn’t possibly be a conservative based on these examples.

I understand I said He wasn’t a liberal in the first part of this series.

And thus the dilemma.

Jesus wasn’t a liberal.

And now we find Jesus wasn’t a conservative.

And so what was He?

Being the nice guy that I am, I’m going to leave it to you to think about.
