7 Characteristics of the Lamb and God’s Good Plan for Your Life

Detail of the countenance of Christ just dead (1793), by José Luján Pérez,KEY CHARACTER IN REVELATION 5

“And I saw between the throne (with the four living creatures) and the elders a Lamb standing, as if slain.” (Revelation 5:6a)

The key character in the New Testament Book of Revelation chapter 5 is a Lamb.

7 CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LAMB

The Lamb has 7 characteristics which are:

1st characteristic of the Lamb: He bears the fresh marks of slaughter (due to crucifixion?!). (Revelation 5:6b) This is Jesus Christ.

2nd characteristic of the Lamb: He has 7 horns ~ complete power (omnipotence). (Revelation 5:6c)

3rd characteristic of the Lamb: He has 7 eyes ~ complete knowledge (omniscience). (Rev 5:6d)

4th characteristic of the Lamb: He gave His life as a ransom for humankind. (Revelation 5:9)

5th characteristic of the Lamb: He is worshiped by angels. (Revelation 5:11-12)

6th characteristic of the Lamb: He is equal to God. (Revelation 5:13b)

7th characteristic of the Lamb: He is worthy to take the book (scroll) in God’s right hand and execute God’s plan. (Revelation 5:1-8a)

GOD’S GOOD PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE

And God’s plan started way back in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve refused to believe His word and ate of the forbidden fruit and died.

And then in their hearing God spoke of His plan to the serpent who deceived them, saying,

“I will put enmity between you (the devil) and the woman, and between your offspring (sin, death and hell) and her offspring (the Messiah); he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15)

God said, “Yes, Adam and Eve have died (spiritually and then later physically), but I’m going to die, too – and in their place to save them.”

God would die, too!

And it happened when a bruised and beaten man thousands of years later was nailed to a cross. And God (the Son) died there for Adam and Eve’s sin in the Garden and for our sins, too, their descendants who would receive His gift of repentance and faith as the Apostle Peter writes,

The Lord is … not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. (2 Peter 3:9b)

God’s plan is not that you drive a fancy car.

God’s plan is not that you enjoy a stellar career.

God’s plan is not that you own a mansion of a house.

God’s plan is not that you live “your best life now.”

(If you live “your best life now” you will end up in hell.)

No, God’s plan is none of these things.

Instead, it’s to save you from your sins.

Pure and simple.

(Just like it was for Adam and Eve.)

Repent (sorrow over your sins) and believe that Jesus Christ has died on the cross in your place (see the 1st and 4th characteristic of the Lamb above) and you will receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

This is God’s plan.

It’s a good plan for your life.

There is no other.
