Peace Treaty Between Israel and Antichrist

Antichrist – detail from a fresco at Osogovo Monastery in the Republic of Macedonia. The inscription reads "All kings and nations bow before the Antichrist."“And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.” (Daniel 9:27)

PEACE TREATY

There is a peace treaty (albeit false) in the end times that scholars believe will be brokered between Israel and a certain world leader.

It is written about here in the first part of Daniel 9:27…

“And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week.” (Daniel 9:27a)

The “he” is the world leader (sometimes referred to as Antichrist). He makes a “firm covenant” (peace treaty) with the “many” (the Jews). The length of the covenant is “one week” (or seven years).

TREATY BROKEN

In the middle of the seven years (at the 3 1/2 year point), basically, all hell is going to break loose as Antichrist shows himself for who he really is – Satan’s masterpiece of a man…

“…but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate.” (Daniel 9:27b)

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.” (John 10:10a)

This “abomination of desolation” in the second part of Daniel 9:27 (cf. Daniel 11:31, 12:11; Matthew 24:15; Mark 13:14) happens as Antichrist will set himself up in the Jewish temple to receive worship as he declares himself to be God. (2 Thessalonians 2:4; Revelation 13:15)

This is likely the act that breaks the peace treaty (in my view).

ANTICHRIST’S DESTRUCTION

Antichrist’s ultimate destruction is forecast in the last part of Daniel 9:27…

“…even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate.” (Daniel 9:27c)

We have an expanded view of this destruction in the pouring out of the seven bowls of wrath in Revelation 16:1-20 and then in the return of Jesus Christ Himself to the earth in the last part of Revelation 19:11-21.

And so the apostle Paul’s along with the prophet Jeremiah’s words are fulfilled…

While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly. (1 Thessalonians 5:3a)

“Alas! for that day is great, there is none like it; and it is the time of Jacob’s distress, but he (Israel and all who love Jesus Christ) will be saved from it.” (Jeremiah 30:7)
