Forgiveness and Finding Rest for Your Soul

Rodolpho Bernardelli: Christ and the Adulterous Woman, 1881.“Jesus said to [the woman caught in adultery], ‘Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?’ She said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘I do not condemn you, either. Go. From now on sin no more.'” (John 8:10-11)

FORGIVENESS

I want to talk to you about forgiveness.

Oftentimes we hear it mentioned and what’s said about it is that we should be forgiving of others and overlooking of others’ faults – which is important.

But I wonder if we don’t speak about forgiveness too much that way and not often enough as regards ourselves.

That’s what I want to focus on and impress upon you. (And it’s not narcissistic to do it.)

REST FOR YOUR SOUL

Some of us walk through life so burdened and weighed down with our transgressions and sins and failures to live up, etc., when God has done all that He can do to free us from such a wearying existence.

“Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden [with sin],” Jesus said, “and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28; KJV)

I wish that you could find rest for your soul.

It’ll happen as you take the following verses to heart.

Linger long and experience the freedom the Lord has for you.

“I (God) will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” (Jeremiah 31:34; NIV)

“As far as the east is from the west, so far has he (God) removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12; NIV)

“You are kind and forgiving, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you.” (Psalm 86:5; NIV)

“I acknowledged my sin to you and did no cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgression to the Lord’ – and you forgave the guilt of my sin.” (Psalm 32:5; NIV)

“Everyone who believes in him (Jesus) receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” (Acts 10:43; NIV)

“If we confess our sins, he (God) is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

“You (God) forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins.” (Psalm 85:2; NIV)
