On Palm Sunday and Rock Concerts

Entry of Christ into Jerusalem“And as He (Jesus) was now approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God. And some of the Pharisees in the multitude said to Him, ‘Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’ And He answered and said, ‘I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!” (Luke 19:37a, 39-40)

PALM SUNDAY AND ROCK CONCERTS

Today is Palm Sunday, my friends.

And of all the things I want to talk to you about, I want to talk to you about rock concerts.

What do rock concerts have to do with Palm Sunday?

Well, if you don’t know yet, I’m gonna fill you in.

TWO CAMPS ON ROCK CONCERTS

There are two camps when you bring up the subject of rock concerts. Right?

The first camp includes those who like rock concerts (obviously).

And the second camp includes those who don’t like rock concerts (just as obvious).

This second camp can offer you a multitude of reasons why they don’t like rock concerts. It might be as simple as they can’t handle loud music and would like to keep their hearing for at least a few more years!

STONES CRYING OUT

Now I don’t know if you noticed, but in the above passage Jesus mentions nothing short of a “rock concert.”

Look at it again.

In v. 40 Christ states, “I tell you, if these [who are praising Me] become silent, the stones will cry out!”

Do you see that there?

Stones crying out is equal to a rock concert! (And in no way am I talking about the Rolling Stones!)

CHRIST IN TO “ROCK CONCERTS”?

But what our Lord was doing by bringing up a rock concert to the Pharisees who wanted to stop people from worshiping God – He was literally saying, “Go ahead and try to stop worship. If you could possibly succeed, then the rocks will put on a concert in homage to Me.”

And so I guess you might say that Christ is in to “rock concerts”?!

JESUS WORTHY OF OUR PRAISE

But moreso, my brothers and sisters, He’s worthy of our praise. Isn’t He?

He is the Son of God who takes away the sins of the world through bleeding and dying on a cross and rising from the dead on the third day!

So let us not allow anyone or anything to stop us from raising our voices and lifting up our hands and bowing our knee in honor of Jesus.

Even if you don’t like your worship loud, I think you can agree with that!
