10 Mistakes People Make with Judging (plus 1 bonus):

1. Falsely think it is totally forbidden across the board. (1 Corinthians 5:1-5; Matthew 7:15-20)
2. Mix up different types of judging (we ARE NOT to judge in a haughty and condemning manner; we ARE to judge righteously, mercifully). (Luke 6:37; James 2:13)
3. Use Jesus’ saying, “Do not judge,” to demand others accept aberrant lifestyles. (Matthew 7:1-2)
4. Miss that judging oneself first prepares a person for the right (and merciful) judgment of others. (Matthew 7:1-5)
5. Overlook that a judgmental spirit is a sign of unrecognized sin in one’s life. (Romans 2:1)
6. Forget that God alone is the perfect Judge (we simply don’t have all the information). (1 Samuel 16:7)
7. Overlook that we all deserve to be judged, but Christ forgives and frees us instead (if we receive Him into our lives). (John 8:2-11)
8. Throw any kind of “judgment” out the window so everything goes (gay sex, abortion, illegal immigration, etc).
9. Miss that a Christian ought to be the best judge (have the best discernment) of all. (1 Corinthians 6:1-5)
10. Don’t realize we all must stand before God to be judged after this life is through (ought to greatly affect the way we live). (Hebrews 9:27; Acts 10:42)

BONUS Leave out the Holy Spirit in the process of judging / discernment. (1 Corinthians 2:12-15)
