The 10 Most Scariest Verses in the Bible

Scary Face(CLICK HERE to get your FREE pack of 7 social media graphics to share on Facebook, Instagram and beyond! Courtesy of Pastor Mike.)

I have a confession to make. I was trying to get your attention with the title. It worked, didn’t it?

And I guess it isn’t so much that I want to scare anybody with the Bible (but then again, maybe I do?). Actually, my main intention is to just offer some Scripture that you may or may not have ever taken time to consider. Yes, these are heavy, but we shouldn’t steer clear of them because of it.

We live in a day and age where we’ll discuss just about anything and everything except what’s really important. Don’t talk to me about death and dying. Don’t talk to me about hell. Don’t talk to me about being ready to meet my Maker. Do you know anybody like that? They don’t care and that’s fine. God allows for that. But there are others of us who are designed to be Christ’s. (Could it be you?) It’s these that I’m (He’s!) after.

Of course, this is a list generated by moi’ (that’s “me” in French). There was no CBS poll taken or scientific study.

See if you agree with:

The 10 Most Scariest Verses in the Bible…
(What others might you include?)

#10: Romans 3:10-12.“There is none righteous, not even one; There is none who understands, There is none who seeks for God; All have turned aside, together they have become useless; There is none who does good, There is not even one.”

#9: Jude 14b-15. “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”

#8: James 2:10. For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.

#7: Mark 9:43.“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire.”

#6: Luke 22:31. “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat.”

#5: Hebrews 6:4a, 6. For in the case of those who have once been enlightened … and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God, and put Him to open shame.

#4: Luke 16:23. “And in Hades he (the rich man) lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.”

#3: Matthew 25:30. “Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

#2: John 8:24. “Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I (Jesus) am He (the Messiah), you will die in your sins.”

#1: Revelation 20:15. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Now the point of The Ten Most Scariest Verses in the Bible is to show us that we have no hope of Heaven apart from faith in Jesus Christ.

We cannot trust in our own works to save us. We must trust in His work of dying on the cross for our sins and then rising from the dead on the third day. Salvation is a free gift that God grants to us when we confess our sins and believe that He forgives us through His Son.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. (Ephesians 2:8-9)

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)
